As an American, I prefer foreign V8’s. They usually sound better. Except for the Coyote and VooDoo, they both sound pretty good.

yes and no. the american do it in a sort of redneck, AWW YEAA BUBBA, WE GOT OURSELF A WILD ONE sort of the way.

the italian have a flair and panch...it obvious the engines were made with noise being a bigger concern then some other things.

the german motors. all buisness. this isnt an engine made to sound good. this is an engine made to move shit. and move shit QUICK. get out of our way and no one will get hurt.

True, but Brabus tuned the exhaust to perfection though.. not to ease out the last bit of power, but to sound nice ... And MAN does that Brabus V8 sound like a beast or two.

Not the only, and I wouldn’t even argue best. But we do have them for the cheapest!

Is it cammed? I feel like that’s where the difference really comes in. These all sound like it’s just a tune and exhaust, and they rev really fast, rather than lazily.

European motors are often “smooth” and “refined” when compared to American V8s. Our V8s lend themselves to a more unique sound when you change the cam. Euro V8s are just efficient.

Just go to Youtube and look for Voodoo cams or Thumpr cams. The day I see an mercedes *63 with an aggressive cam like that will be the day foreign V8s can start really turning heads at idle.

I find it interesting that you put it this way. Every AMG training class I go to they always list exhaust note as one of their most important design aspects and a commonly cited reason for customers buying AMG’s, they have a team of engineers who work mainly on exhaust. They’re loud and raucous in person, recordings don’t do it justice.

I know the note is part of it. I’ve ridden behind a few being given the beans.

but they dont sound exciting. the sound like a big mean V8 getting to its buisness. the audis sound the same. its almost...DULL, with the exception of the snaps and cracks, which are loud enoguh to deafen you.

I completely disagree. But to each their own. I feel that way about most domestic engines, loud but boring.

like the other peter said, there’s 3 way to do a V8 right:

American: Loud, proud, unabashed and reliable as all hell. Tends to make obscene noises all the time. Is noticeable by loapines in sound.

Itallian: less CC’s, more revs. the smaller you 8 cylinders are, the better song they’ll sing t 7,800RPM. these engines are full of soul, and create high pitched sounds like those in the finest classical music pieces.

German: A crossbreed, with kick. Add the loud of the Americans, but the ideology of Italians, and you get V8's that rev high, scream loud, and provide a great middle ground
